Special Notice to All Congregation Members(additional info):

The Temple would like to kindly thank all congregation members for all of the wonderful offerings of foodstuffs(bhoga) to  the Deities over the past year. Through the medium of this  newsletter, Temple management has humbly decided to inform the congregation that it is no longer able to accept certain foodstuffs for offering to the Deities. As a start, the first item to be included in this list is white sugar. Most white sugar is not manufactured in the mode of goodness. Animal products are used in the manufactring process and therefore cannot be offered to Deities. The official statement:

Dear devotees and friends of Sri Sri Radha-Govinda,

We are no longer using white sugar in our offerings to
Lord Krsna.  The refining and processing methods for white sugar use chemical or synthetic flocculants, clarifying agents and filters including bleaches or bone char (made of cows' bones.)  As a recommended alternative, raw, unbleached, and less processed/refined sugars such as turbinado, raw sugar, gur or jaggery, and  sucanat, are preferred.

In addition to our non use of white sugar, please consider the following:

we do not use:

Masoor dal (red lentils)
Corn oil, canola oil, or vegetable oil.
Garlic or spice blends containing garlic   (please read food labels)
Tea
Chocolate
Canned or packaged foods.

we appreciate:

Fresh fruits
Fresh vegetables
Organic Milk
Unsalted butter (for home-made ghee)
Dal (beans)
Basmati Rice              (no par-boiled or short grain)
Gur, Raw Sugar, Turbinado Sugar.
Nuts
Dried fruits
Whole Spices

Thank you for your

viṣayā vinivartante
nirāhārasya dehinaḥ
rasa-varjaḿ raso 'py asya
paraḿ dṛṣṭvā nivartate

SYNONYMS

viṣayāḥ - objects for sense enjoyment; vinivartante - are practiced to be refrained from; nirāhārasya - by negative restrictions; dehinaḥ - for the embodied; rasa-varjam - giving up the taste; rasaḥ - sense of enjoyment; api - although there is; asya - his; param - far superior things; dṛṣṭvā - by experiencing; nivartate - he ceases from.

TRANSLATION

The embodied soul may be restricted from sense enjoyment, though the taste for sense objects remains. But, ceasing such engagements by experiencing a higher taste, he is fixed in consciousness.

PURPORT

Unless one is transcendentally situated, it is not possible to cease from sense enjoyment. The process of restriction from sense enjoyment by rules and regulations is something like restricting a diseased person from certain types of eatables. The patient, however, neither likes such restrictions nor loses his taste for eatables. Similarly, sense restriction by some spiritual process like aṣṭāńga-yoga, in the matter of yama, niyama, āsana, prāṇāyāma, pratyāhāra, dhāraṇā, dhyāna, etc., is recommended for less intelligent persons who have no better knowledge. But one who has tasted the beauty of the Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa, in the course of his advancement in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, no longer has a taste for dead, material things. Therefore, restrictions are there for the less intelligent neophytes in the spiritual advancement of life, but such restrictions are only good until one actually has a taste for Kṛṣṇa consciousness. When one is actually Kṛṣṇa conscious, he automatically loses his taste for pale things.

Sponsorship Central:

Dear Friends of Lord Krsna:

Sponsorship Central is a new feature of the Temple Weekly Bulletin which allows you to directly connect with the Temple and participtate in the process of spreading Krsna Consciousness to the Denver Metropolitan Area. There are many different ways to become involved and this new section will provide you with guidelines ranging from actually performing devotional service (karma yoga) to financially supporting the Temple. As you may not know, maintaining and operating the Denver Temple is a huge financial undertaking which also requires the support of many devotees performing long hours of devotional service. In the past we have been able to succeed with the generous help of those congregational members who have stepped forward and donated their time, energy and financial backing. Once again, we would like to extend an  an invitation to those congregation members who are interested in becoming more involved with performing Krsna Seva at the Temple and getting the Mercy of Their Lordships Sri Sri Radha Govinda. Helping The Denver Temple Devotees continue with their preaching efforts and spreading Krsna Consciousness in these troubled times is surely a worthy undertaking!   If you are interested in helping at the Denver Temple and ultimately perfecting your life as a human being, we strongly urge you to step forward and sign up!
