"Maha means greater and bharata means this planet So Mahabharata means the history of this planet. Now it is minimized, “india.’

India is the name given by the Britishers or the Europeans. Real name is Bharata; Bharata-varsa according to the name of Maharaja Bharata."

--lecture of SB.1.7.11. Sep.10th 1976 Vrndavana, India--

Srila prabhupada mentioned the following in his lecture of the SB this morning:

"Behind all these energetic work… the energies, different energies are working…

And Krishna’s energy is so powerful that He puts the potency in a seed.

Whatever is coming out, being manifested, the seed, I am.” Means: ‘Is it manufactured under My supervision.’

Just find out the seed of a banyan tree, a small grain, like mustard seed. But you sow the seed and a big tree, gigantic tree, will come out…

Now, from that seed, first of all, the trunk will come, the branches will come. Then the twigs will come, the leaves will come, and the fabrication of the leaf. Everything see, wonderful. Everything we see belongs to Krishna..."

--lecture of SB.1.2.33 - Nov. 12th 1972--

Prabhupada: Whatever you are doing, that is by Krsna's grace. And when you are still favorable, then Krsna will give you more facilities. Krsna will give you facility, will favor you, as much as you desire, not more than that. Ye yatha mam prapadyante tams tathaiva...

As much proportionately you surrender to Krsna, the intelligence will come. If you fully surrender, then full intelligence will come…

Krishna says: "You fully surrender. I give you full protection." Aham tvam sarva-papebhyo moksayisyami [Bg. 18.66]

He will give you full intelligence… You must be submissive first of all. Then Krsna will give you all facilities…

--Morning Walk, May 17th 1973--

Srila Prabhupada mentioned the following in his class this morning:

If you simply hear and talk about Krsna, you become pious, pious. Even if you don’t understand the Sanskrt or English. Hear about Krsna. Then you become pious. It is so powerful....

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, he advised me also that ‘if you get some money, publish book.” And he used to say that: “This press propaganda, the publication propaganda, is brhad-mrdanga.”...

--Class on the SB.1.7.7. Given on April 24th 1975 in Vrndavan, India--

Devotee: They are attracted by wonderful things such as Sai Baba. He is doing so many wonderful things. People...

Prabhupada: That is, means rascal. He does not see Krsna's wonderful. If you want to see wonderful things, why don't you see the more wonderful things? But they are foolish; they are captivated with small wonderful things. That means less intelligent. Just like small children, they will be amazed by seeing small wonderful things, but his father will not be.

What is the amazement, wonderful thing, Sai Baba has done? If he is creator of gold, then why he is doing business of incense? You know that? He has a big incense business exactly like us. He can create gold? Why there is incense business? [break]...

Prabhupada: ...no scarcity... We have got enough gold. Krsna is supplying gold whenever we require. [break] ...artha-prayojanam. Whatever you need, Krsna will supply, if you actually remain dependent on Krsna. There are so many literatures of different groups, but who is selling so much? Forty thousand, fifty thousand daily? Unless Krsna is helping us. In the history no religion book have sold thirty thousand, forty thousand daily. There is no history. So why don't you see this wonderful thing?... Nobody has given... So where from the cash is coming?

Gargamuni: Sales of books.

Prabhupada: That's all right. Because we have got substantial sale of books, we are free to get money. And it is unbelievable that religious books are sold thirty thousand, forty thousand, fifty thousand daily. There is no history.

Gargamuni: So that is a miracle.

Prabhupada: Is it not miracle?...

--Morning Walk "Miracles And MIRACLES" (Hyderabad, April 29th 1974)--

Svarupa Damodara: That is what the research means. Research means to understand what was not known before.

Prabhupada: Research means you admit that you are all fools and rascals. Research meant for whom? Who does not know. Otherwise where is the question of research? You do not know. You admit that.

So so many mystic powers are there. You do not know how it is being done. Therefore you have toaccept inconceivable power. And without accepting this principle of inconceivable power, there is no meaning of God.

Not like that Bala-yogi became a God. So these are for the rascals, fools. But those who are intelligent, they will stress the inconceivable power. Just like we accept Krsna as God -- inconceivable power. We accept Rama -- inconceivable power. Not so cheaply. One rascal comes and says, "I am incarnation of God." Another rascal accepts. It is not like that. "Ramakrishna is God." We do not accept.

We must see the inconceivable mystic power. Just like Krsna, as a child, lifted a hill. This is inconceivable mystic power. Ramacandra, He constructed a bridge of stone without pillar. The stone began to float: "Come on." So that is an inconceivable power. And because you cannot adjust this inconceivable power, when they are described, you say, "Oh, these are all stories." What is called? Mythology. But these great, great sages, Valmiki and Vyasadeva and other acaryas, they simply wasted their time in writing mythology? Such learned scholars?

And they have not interpreted that it is mythology. They have accepted it as actual fact.

There was forest fire. All the friends and cowherd boys, they became disturbed. They began to see towards Krsna: "Krsna, what to do?" "All right." He simply swallowed up the whole fire. This is inconceivable mystic power. That is God.

Aisvarya-vairagya-yaso-'vabhodha-virya-sriya. These six opulences in full. That is God. That inconceivable power, inconceivable energy or mystic power, we have got also. Very minute quantity.

So many things are going on within our body. We cannot explain. The same example. My nails are coming exactly in the form. Although it is spoiled by disease, again it is coming. I do not know what machinery is going on, and the nail is coming, exactly fitting the position and everything. That is coming from my body. So that is mystic power. Even it is mystic power for me and to the doctors, everyone... They cannot explain.

--Morning Walk, May 17th 1973--

Srila prabhupada mentioned the following in his class this morning:

"We are trying to become purusa or Bhagavan, but we are not perfect. The Bhagavan means Complete. So we cannot accept anyone as Bhagavan unless is purnam, Complete.

Meditation means to find out the Supreme Complete Person. That is called meditation, not that you meditate in anything and nonsense.

So meditation is to find out the supreme Paramatma within yourself, that is called yoga practice. This is yogi, so , that yoga is perfect when you see Krsna.

One who is trying to find out Krsna within himself… Krsna is there. So you have to be qualified to see Him. That is required.

When your eyes are anointed with love of God, then you can see Him within yourself twenty-four hours. This is not difficult for understanding

If you see the Deity always, then you get His picture impressed within your mind, and if you always think of Him, then you see Him within your mind. This is not difficult for understanding… "

--Lecture on the SB.1.7.6 recorded in Vrndavana, India on April 19th 1975--

The Pearls of Instruction by His Divine Grace Om Visnupada Paramahansa Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada:

1. We are constantly put to test and trial in this world. Only those who attend and participate in the kirtana of the devotees can succeed.

2. Every spot on earth where pure discourses on God are held is a place of pilgrimage.

3. Possession of objects not related to Krishna is our main malady.

4. Let me not desire anything but the highest good for my worst enemies.

5. As dalliance with the body in luxury increases, so wanes the spirit of service of the Lord.

6. Those favored by God find their paths set by thorns.

7. There is no peace or happiness in our worldly life. Circumstances create turmoil and annoyance.

8. Chant the Holy Names loudly and with attachment. This will drive away inertia, worldly evils and pests.

9. Be indifferent to bazaar gossips, stick firmly to your cherished goals, no lack or impediments of the world will ever stand in your way.

10. Pay due respects to the extroverts of the world, but do not be appreciative of their manners and conduct. They are to be shaken off from your mind.

11. A devotee feels the presence of God everywhere, but one averse to the Lord denies His existence anywhere.

12. You cannot appreciate transcendental matters with the reasoning of the world. It is sheer nonsense to decry them with the measuring stick of your intellect.

13. To recite the Holy Names of Shri Krishna and Shri Krishna Chaitanya is Bhakti.

14. Life is for the glorification of topics on Hari. If that is stopped, then what need is there to carry on life.

15. Physical illness with Hari-bhajana is preferred to physical fitness without Hari-bhajana.

16. Our span of life on earth is short. Our life will be crowned with success if the body wears out with constant discourses on Hari.

17. We are here on earth not to work as artisans for making big buildings with wood and stone but to work only as messengers for the teachings of Shri Gauranga Deva.

18. A sycophant is neither a guru or a preacher.

19. To transform the adverse desires of the jivas is the supreme duty of the most merciful. To rescue one person from the stronghold of Mahamaya is an act of superb benevolence, far superior to opening innumerable hospitals.

20. Unless we are devoted to God, secularism shall not leave us.

21. Look within. Amend yourself, rather than pry into the frailities of others.

22. In this world of Maya, averse to the Lord, full of trials and tribulations, only patience, humility and respect for others are our friends for Hari-bhajana.

23. The Lord, Gaurasundara, puts His devotees in various difficulties and associations to test their patience and strength of mind. Success depends on their good fortune.

24. When faults in others misguide and delude you - have patience, introspect, find faults in yourself. Know that others cannot harm you unless you harm yourself.

25. I wish that every selfless, tender-hearted person of Gaudiya Math (Gauranga's followers) will be prepared to shed two hundred gallons of blood for the nourishment of the spiritual corpus of every individual of this world.

A Guest asked Srila Prabhupada about Jesus Christ:

Guest (1): May I ask a question, Prabhupada? Something that I've wondered about, perhaps you could explain it briefly. I believe that Krsna is the Supreme God, so don't get me wrong, but since you mentioned Christ, was he an incarnation of Krsna? Was Jesus Christ sent here by Krsna from...

Prabhupada: He says that he is son of God; that is accepted.

Guest (1): Krsna was Christ's father then.

Devotee: Yes.

Prabhupada: No, Krsna is father, and Christ is the son.

Guest (1): I understand it now. I just wondered.

Prabhupada: He said "I am son of God." Yes.

Guest (1): And when he spoke of his father in heaven, he was speaking of Krsna.

Prabhupada: That is, yes.

Guest (1): I understand. It all fits together now.

Indian man (7): Swamiji, how could you convince these Christian people that Christ was the son of God, or Krsna was the...

Prabhupada: Christ says himself that "I am the son of God." (laughter)

Indian man (7): Many Christians, they do not...

Prabhupada: Many Christians also... There are so many Christian editions. That is another thing.

But all these Christians, they all my students, they are coming from Christian. How they accept Krsna as the father?

Guest (1): Prabhupada, did Christ return to the spiritual planets then, when he left the earth, to be with Krsna?

Prabhupada: He is coming from spiritual planets. He is authorized representative of Krsna, we accept him as saktyavesa-avatara. So I was invited in some priestly meeting in Melbourne, they asked me the question, "What is your opinion of Christ?" So I said "He's our guru." (laughter)

Actually, we accept him as our guru. He's preaching God's message; he's Vaisnava. ANYONE WHO ACCEPTS GOD, HE'S VAISNAVA.

He was explaining kingdom of God, God. So according to time, circumstances, audience...

Now we can just imagine what kind of people he had to deal with, that his commandment is "Thou shall not kill." Then understand how much they were accustomed to killing. So what kind of men they were? And not only that, in spite of hearing his instruction "Thou shall not kill," they killed him first.

So what kind of men they were, just imagine. He said, "Thou shall not kill," and they decided, "We shall kill you first." So this class of men he had to deal with.

--July 11th 1976, room conversation--

"The person who has not at any time received the dust of the feet of the Lord's pure devotee upon his head is certainly a dead body. And the person who has never experienced the aroma of the tulasī leaves from the lotus feet of the Lord is also a dead body, although breathing."

Srila Prabhupada mentioned the following in a class given this morning:

...So Krsna is the original cause of everything, cause of all causes. This is the aim of life, to know Vasudeva. And what is the cultivation of knowledge? To understand Vasudeva.

Do you know what is the end of knowledge? They often talk of Vedanta, but minus Krsna. This is going on. They are known as Vedantis, minus Krsna. What is the use? simply wasting time, simple wasting time...

Those who, following the Vedic principles, perform any yajna, any sacrifice, any religious ceremony you perform, must be yajne vara salagrama-sila. Without salagrama-sila, no yajna must be performed...

Hindu dharma is a vague term. Real dharma is varnasrama-dharma.

You cannot manufacture dharma, religion. No. Dharma means the codes and regulations given by God. Otherwise, it is not dharma.
That is dharma, obedience to God religion means obedience to God.
Religion means the codes and the rules and regulations.

There are so many so-called yogis but I can clearly say that without Vasudeva, yoga is simple pressing the nose. That's all. This is not yoga.

This kind of yoga system is that, the fatty woman goes to the yoga class for reduce fat. That is yoga system for them, you see. Somebody is going to practice yoga system for making right the liver action.

Real yoga system is not for health’s sake, or curing the liver disease or reducing fat, no. This is not yoga system. These are all a farce.

--November 8th 1972 Vrndavan, India - Class on SB.1.2.28-29--

Happy Thanksgiving Day to Everyone! Thank you Srila Prabhupada!

Srila Prabhupada is The One that we should all be thankful for!
Not only on thanksgiving day but every day of our lives...
Where we all be without you dear beloved Patita Pavana?
You are the one that crossed an ocean for us...

"If death takes place, let it take here. There is nothing to be said new.

Whatever I have to speak, I have spoken in my books. Now you try to understand it and continue your endeavor.

Whether I am present or not present, it doesn't matter.
As Krsna is living eternally, similarly, living being also lives eternally.
But, "One who has done service to the Lord lives forever."
So you have been taught to serve Krsna, and with Krsna we'll live eternally.
Our life is eternal. A temporary disappearance of this body doesn't matter.
Body is meant for disappearance. So live forever by serving Krsna.

"The initiating spiritual master (diksa-guru) shows his causeless mercy by instructing his disciple in the chanting of the maha-mantra. And by doing so, he guides the disciples in the direction of the truth of the Supreme Lord, Krishna.

But I consider that the numerous others instructing spiritual masters (siksa-gurus) are more important, because they show more mercy by training the sadakas in all essential aspects of the sadhana-bhakti"

Srila Prabhupada gave the class of the Srimad-Bhagavatam this Sunday morning, in which he mentioned:

"If one jumps to the platform of understanding Krishna's rasa-lila or Vrndavana-lila, he'll be misled. He'll be misled.

One is practical bhagavata, one who know what is Bhagavata, what is Bhagavan... We are just worshiping the lotus feet of Krsna. Then the other. Then the thighs. Gradually, you have to rise to the face. The Tenth Canto is the face of Krishna. Read it but try to understand from the very beginning..."

Lamentation Due to Separation from the Lord and His Associates--

The following is and excerpt taken from the new book published and entitled "Love Medicine and Music" by HG Guru Das prabhu: (the picture is also taken from his photo albums)

... The Swami sat between us. He was unassuming, comfortable in all situations, and smiled a lot. His jolly manner was infectious, so I smiled a lot from being around him. If someone gave the Swami any money he would immediately ...use it for printing, either books or magazines, never for his own self. He lived simply, but he would accept gifts as tools if it helped him to serve Lord Krishna.

He woke at 2:00 a.m., bathed, chanted 250,000 holy names or 16 rounds on a rosary of 108 beads. He encouraged us to also take up this practice, which we did. The Mantra (mind-deliverer) was a way of cleansing the mind of unwanted things. A purification process. Anyway, it felt good to chant:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.” The chanting was also a prayer to Lord Krishna to please allow us to serve. This was a culmination of all my protests, deeds, experiments, and studies.

The Swami did not ask anything for himself. He always deferred to Krishna. We wanted to give him gifts and things and he would politely decline unless it could help him to serve Lord Krishna, such as a dictaphone to help him write. After he chanted his morning rounds, he would write while most of the population was still sleeping. He brought with him the three volumes of Srimad Bhagavatam and now he was finishing his translation and purports of the Bhagavad-gita. After many hours of writing, he would go for a walk.

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings and evenings at 7 a.m and p.m., the Swami would come to the temple and lead us in chanting (kirtan). His melodious voice comforted me, and soon we would dive into the shelter of his paeans. He showed us how to play the kartalas, as a few came from India. He wrapped the handmade cloth through the 3-inch metal discs, and clang clang, he would play and begin the chanting. Listening and then singing was the process. His honey-gravel voice flooded the small storefront temple. Then we joined in. There were about 6 initiated devotees and many regular students attending now.

Sometimes at the night kirtans, Swamiji would lead us on a bongo drum. As the congregation increased, kettle drums, trumpets, violins, guitars, and kelp horns added supporting musical notes. Soon, our chanting became faster and louder, and we could not help dancing. All the while, the Swami would chant with closed eyes, then open them while we were chanting and dancing, beaming his Benedictine smile on us. Whirling, exciting feelings of transcending time, this earth, myself, and all the good trips culminated into a feeling of bliss.

I was looking for the ultimate high, from within and without. The less I needed outside substances, influences, affirmations from others, keys, clothes, desires, the happier I could be. I was searching for the most natural and eternal high.I was looking for the ultimate groove, the nth degree, the zenith. All people sharing lore, medicine, clothes, and food. When my love for Krishna is felt, then my love for all spilled over, and when I love everyone and everything, then my love for Krishna is increased.

After we chanted, the Swami would say some Sanskrit prayers honoring past saintly persons in his spiritual line (Samprediya). He would then speak very simply and very sweetly to us so we could understand. He said, “Chanting is sublime, and by doing so, we become purified and happy.” He was an example of this.
